This part of the Mishnah records a story with the sons of Rabban Gamliel which shows his viewpoint on the latest time to recite the Shema.

מַעֲשֶׂה שֶׁבָּאוּ בָנָיו מִבֵּית הַמִּשְׁתֶּה,

אָמְרוּ לוֹ, לֹא קָרִינוּ אֶת שְׁמַע.

אָמַר לָהֶם, אִם לֹא עָלָה עַמּוּד הַשָּׁחַר, חַיָּבִין אַתֶּם לִקְרוֹת.
