This part of the Mishnah tells of a story where Rabbi Tarfon acted in accordance with the opinion of Beit Shammai.

אָמַר רַבִּי טַרְפוֹן,

אֲנִי הָיִיתִי בָא בַדֶּרֶךְ,

וְהִטֵּתִי לִקְרוֹת,

כְּדִבְרֵי בֵית שַׁמַּאי,

וְסִכַּנְתִּי בְעַצְמִי

מִפְּנֵי הַלִּסְטִים.


אָמְרוּ לוֹ,

כְּדַי הָיִיתָ

לָחוֹב בְּעַצְמְךָ,

שֶׁעָבַרְתָּ
